He is an architect, sculptor and industrial designer, and an Associate Partner at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects (formerly Cesar Pelli & Associates) in New York City, as well as a founding partner of Situcraft in Long Island City, New York.

After graduating in Architectural Design from Yale University, Copeland joined Cesar Pelli & Associates as a full-time member of the firm. In 1996, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Rome, followed by an appointment as a Visiting Studio Artist at the American Academy in Rome, Italy.

In 2008, Copeland began a decade-long series of annual design collaborations with various Italian stone companies at Marmomac, and in 2016 he opened his own stone sculpture and design studio in New York City, launching Situcraft, a furniture company focused on stone design.
