The Italian Stone Theatre was the project that, from 2015 to 2021, brought experimentation and design with natural stone to Marmomac, through the works of artists and designers who, with their creations, best expressed the excellence of Made in Italy worldwide.
A place of encounter
The Italian Stone Theatre was the place where the challenges and opportunities linked to the industrial processing of marble engaged in dialogue with the creative needs of art and design. This interaction fostered experimentation with increasingly innovative, design-oriented production solutions, capable of elevating the market offering of Italian natural stone to a level equal to—if not above—that of international competitors.
Over the years, Marmomac has unquestionably strengthened its leadership role among industry events, becoming a privileged meeting place for professionals and enthusiasts of stone culture. Numerous and well-established educational opportunities have been developed, including lectures, conferences and seminars aimed at both the public and international buyer delegations hosted by the event, as well as architecture awards and moments of discussion focused on the challenges and technological innovations related to stone design.
The Italian Stone Theatre was organised into distinct areas, each hosting an exhibition: one dedicated to architecture, one to design, one to art, and one to objects connected to major furniture and design brands. Each year, within this space, Italian companies were invited to collaborate with internationally renowned architects and designers to create original projects, showcasing stone excellence through works and installations inspired by an annual theme identified by curators Raffaello Galiotto and Vincenzo Pavan.
From its debut to 2021, a wide range of themes was explored: from metamorphosis to the relationship between past, present and future; from the connection between stone and its territories of origin to the dialogue between the fluidity of water and the solidity of marble.

DownloadThe Italian Stone Theatre concluded its seven-year cycle with Time in Stone, featuring an original exhibition layout spread across Halls 11 and 12 of the fairgrounds. The guiding theme was time, explored as a reflection on the symbolic and intrinsic value of this element. What most distinguishes natural stone from artificial products is, in fact, time—an immaterial component retained within the stone body through an indissoluble bond.
